After a long wait and anticipation, DROID Eris will be getting a major firmware upgrade pointing towards Android 2.1 upgrade, Verizon Wireless has officially announced. According to the official announcement, the upgrade will be available “soon” which some anticipate could be by this month’s end.
Motorola Droid users have already been using the leaked version of Android 2.1 and some DROID Eris users have also been using the leaked versions of Android 2.1 on their handsets but OTA update would be more stable and legal.
The list of new features, enhancements and bug fixes gives an indication that it surely is a major firmware upgrade and it would be the much anticipated Android 2.1. Just to let you know, there are still no chances for Flash 10.1 support on DROID Eris since it was explicitly announced by Adobe that it’s hardware is not capable of running Flash 10.1. The only two phones that will support Flash 10.1 are Motorola DROID and Google Nexus One
