Comex has released Spirit, his untethered jailbreak tool for iPhone 2G, 3G, 3Gs and iPod touch 2G,3G running iPhone OS 3.1.3. This is the first public release of Spirit jailbreak tool and it’s almost just as easy as the popular Blackra1n jailbreak tool by Geohot.

The difference between Spirit and all other Jailbreak tools is that it enables untethered Jailbreak which means it’s a permanent jailbreak whereas the current jailbreak tools for iPhone OS 3.1.3 are tethered which means you need to jailbreak your iDevice every time you reboot or restart since you see the annoying “Connect to iTunes” screen on your iPod touch or iPhone.

Step by Step Jailbreak Guide Using Spirit

Important:

For iPod Touch: If you have tethered jailbreak on your iPod touch 2G/3G running firmware 3.1.3 then you first need to restore your iPod touch to the latest firmware i.e. you need to remove that tethered jailbreak before you can jailbreak using Spirit.

For iPhone users: Restore your iPhone 2G/3G/3Gs to the latest firmware BUT if you have unlocked your iPhone 3G or 3Gs then DO NOT upgrade to the latest firmware 3.1.3
