The goal of this book is to help developers and solution architects build effective, high quality applications on the Microsoft platform and the .NET Framework more
quickly and with less risk by leveraging tried and trusted architecture and design
principles and patterns.

The book provides an overview of the underlying principles and patterns that provide a solid foundation for good application architecture and design. On top of this foundation, the guide provides generally applicable guidance for partitioning an application’s functionality into layers, components, and services. It goes on to provide guidance on identifying and addressing the key design characteristics of the solution and the key quality attributes and crosscutting concerns. The guide builds still further and provides guidance that is more specific on the architecture and design of the most common application types, such as Web, rich Internet applications (RIA), rich client, services, and mobile applications.

Guys at Directthought are developing an application for iPhone that will allow users to manage and control the Amazon EC2 environment form an iPhone.

This application uses a toolkit called cTypica which is an Objective-C version of the popular typica Java toolkit for AWS. This will be released under the Apache 2.0 License to enable others to gain access to Amazon's service from their own iPhone applications.

directthought is proud to announce the development of a native iPhone application to access and control Amazon's EC2. You'll be able to keep tabs on your EC2 resource (instances, volumes, etc.) using this application running on your iPhone. Because it is a native application, it doesn't rely on any other server. All you rely on are your iPhone, Amazon's servers and your internet connection. This application is under development and has been tested on the iPhone and iPod touch. We're posting some preliminary screen shots. These are subject to change as the application is refined prior to release

Here are some screenshots:

Microsoft plans to provide a clearer view of how developers can create APIs to leverage Live Mesh in their next Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in October.

Live Mesh that is originally introduced as a files and data synchronizing services across multiple platforms and devices, is getting  a little new orientation towards developing "cloud based" client services and platform.

Up to now, Microsoft did not refer Live Mesh to a cloud computing service. Cloud computing services are such as Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service. But this step can take Live Mesh far in could computing services.
