Ultrasn0w fixer has been updated to comply with the needs of unlocking iPhones (4 and below) running iOS 6.0.1 released by Apple last week sporting minor tweaks and bug fixes. It is recommended that if you are not having any issues on iOS 6 then stay where you are and avoid the hassle as 6.0.1 is not a major update. First thing first, you would need a device running iOS 6.0.1, if you have an iPhone 4 and below and would like to update it, you can download the firmwares from here. Make sure you preserve your baseband before you plan to update, do so with sn0wbreeze or redsn0w by creating a custom restore firmware. Then, put your phone in DFU mode and flash it.

So, for the curious reader and iPhone users, here is the guide to unlock your device :

ProgrammerFish does not take any responsibility for broken devices, try it at your own risk

Ultrasn0w fixer has received constant updates since the launch of iOS 5. Note that, although very effective, it still can’t unlock specific basebands, see the listing below to find out if your device can be unlocked with this method. To find out, navigate to Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware and take a look at your baseband version, if it matches with the list below, you are good to go:

  • Baseband 01.59.00 (iPhone 4)
  • Baseband 04.26.08 (iPhone 3GS)
  • Baseband 05.11.07 (iPhone 3GS)
  • Baseband 05.13.01 (iPhone 3GS)
  • Baseband 05.12.01 (iPhone 3GS)
  • Baseband 06.15.00 (iPhone 3GS)

If you have an iPhone with one of the basebands above then proceed with the guide below:

Step 1. Note that your device must be “Jailbreak” capable, use Absinthe or redsn0w to do that if you haven’t already.

Step 2. Open Cydia.

Step 3.  Tap on the manage tab at the bottom.

Step 4. Go to sources and add the following repository: https://repo.iparelhos.com

Step 5. Search for UltraSn0w and install it.

Step 6. Now search for UltraSn0w fixer tool and install that.

Step 7. After installing, reboot your iPhone.

And there you go, you now have an unlocked iOS 6.0.1 running on your iPhone. Our 2 cents, since iPhone unlocks are getting complicated by the day, it is advised that you get it unlocked permanently using a code. For instance in my region you could get an iPhone 4 unlocked for around 15 $, which is not a bad deal provided you will be able to update your phone without worrying that it might get locked.

Happy Unlocking.
