Flickr's co-founder Caterina Fake (left in the picture) has announced that she will join new startup called Hunch.

In her blog post on the matter, Fake says that she will be joining Hunch as Chief Product Officer. She said

"What is Hunch? Well, as you might assume, it is a consumer internet application, it will have a lot of user participation, and it is more than a little fun. Beyond that, we’re still making it up."

And this doesn't explains properly what actualy Hunch is about.

Sony have released PlayStation 3 Firmware update version 2.42 – but it's minor fixes all the way so don't expect anything game changing.

Following the problems with v2.40, you would imagine that Sony has been fairly careful in making sure that this minor update does not break thousands of PS3s but that isn't going to stop people advising users to wait a while and let someone else try things out.

Here's a very interesting post by Michael Podrazik making a calculated guess that Java is going to be the next language for Google App Engine. And he has very valid points supporting his prediction, he says:

you are only allowed to write C++, Java, Python and JavaScript code at Google. So if Google is going to go with something other than these it would have to be the result of an explicit change in policy.

There's no chance for C++, so we minus that and we're only left with JS and Java. Churning out JavaScript for an App Engine tailored to run in a Server Side environment? eh.... not a good idea afterall.

So delightfully, Java comes out as the ONLY sensible choice Google will make for its next support language for App Engine. Uptil now, Google has cast shadows over any future announcements for App Engine, so whats going on inside their labs is pretty much secret for the outside world. They have a culture of secrecy at Google, anyone disagrees?

And by the way, this is going to be revolutionary in the sense that it will unleash opportunities for the Java developer community to Churn out applications to be hosted on App Engine, the first ever wide-scale Java hosting support environment!

I will keep following the developments and keep you posted.
