A former Google employee(who worked as a search index leader) named Anna Patterson and her husband (Tom Costello)  has launched a new search engine named cuil (Pronounced "cool") .The two, president and CEO, respectively, met at Stanford. Russell Power is third co-founder, who also worked in google  on search indexing, Web rankings and spam detection, is the vice president of Engineering.

Cuil indexes 120 billion Web pages and can provide results organized by ideas with complete privacy for users.(Google has lately discovered 1 trillion unique web pages but have not mentioned the number it indexes).

Cuil claims it goes beyond the ordinary search mechanism and sorts the searches into groups. Tabs are provided to categorize results, clarify subjects, as well as suggestions on how to refine searches.

Cuil's design is different, it shows the results into 2 or 3 columns.

Cuil don't seem to be as "cool" as Google in tearms of search results. Its search results are too less as compared to Google. Although it has its unique appearance.
