Google mail users in UK will now be able to convert their @googlemail.com accounts to @gmail.com accounts, according to the official release from Google. The move is probably aimed at unifying the Gmail brand name. For those who do not remember, Gmail actually started off as Google Mail before switching to Gmail but it did not happen in UK up until now.
Google has already announced it’s updated set of native apps for the iPad which will ship with it and now it has released a new interface for the GMail app for iPad with improved UI. The new GMail app can be accessed through Safari browser on the iPad or through the Mail app.
Google announced 6 new features for Gmail along with the ones that were in the development phase but won’t be added. They call that ‘graduation’ and ‘retirement’ respectively. Now Gmail will add video previews of all the YouTube video links you paste in your email. Besides, Auto complete has been added in the Gmail search.
Google Mail or GMail is one of the best mail clients ever because of its really simple interface and ease of use and above all, it let’s you concentrate on what a mail client is made for: your emails! Setting up SMTP is sometimes not easy. Last year I was developing a photo social network (like Flickr) and we needed a registration confirmation system through email. The SMTP settings of the webhost on which we were testing really sucked so I dumped their SMTP and installed Google Apps for our domain. GMail provides easy SMTP access for sending emails and if you have configured your domain’s email at Google apps then I think its best to use for any email scenarios.
